Life, Love & the Pursuit of Liberty

I hope that this message finds you in preparation to enjoy a day of peace. And while today is a celebrated holiday for our country, I use it as a day of remembrance and thankfulness for liberty. As I reflect, I recognize that in 1865 when America, signed the Emancipation Proclamation, my ancestors were yet still enslaved.

I often wonder how life would have been different for me and my family and loved ones having to endure such harsh conditions. I also take time to reflect on race relations in America today and ponder the question: “Are we really free?”

After all these years of thought and research, one common theme continues to emerge: The pursuit of liberty. Any group of people can argue detriment regarding their rights and freedoms or lack thereof and the unfortunate truth is that we have witnessed countless acts of violence and oppression that realize the ugly truths that far too often freedom does not ring and independence does not yet exist.

But I have resolved to believe with my whole heart that I have access to liberty.
A mirror to freedom, liberty is defined as the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political. In reading this definition, we can immediately retract this entity as something that I would not have access to in America; however I recognize that if I don’t believe that I have access to liberty, then all of my actions will be as a result of an oppressed disposition.

I wake up, dream, walk and talk as though I have full access to liberty. I also believe spiritually that my liberty is not limited to that which man provides. This mindset allows me to bask in limitless possibilities and opportunities to share my gifts with the world and encourage others to do the same.

So in the words of Beyonce’, “I’ma keep runnin cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.” It is my prayer that we all run as if liberty was our birthright. No matter what color, shape, size or selection we are, let’s pursue our dreams like never before, let’s chop away at injustice until it’s extinct and let’s fight for humanity. We all deserve to be liberated and we all deserve to be free, truly free. I say, let freedom ring in your heart and in your mind and in your actions. This is the only way that we can change the world. All my love. ❤️
