The Real Truth About Why I Became A Ghostwriter

I sat there wondering when the next time would be that he would abuse me. It happened so many times that I lost count. All I know is that what he took from me could never be returned. I was now damaged goods. I didn’t care what happened, I wasn’t going to let my family suffer any longer because of him. I was willing to sacrifice myself and my sanity to make sure that they would be ok. I would have done anything to save us from living the impoverished life that we becalmed burdened with. No running water and no food to eat, I believed that selling drugs was the only way to keep us all alive. I continued to put myself last and him first every time. And when I found out that she was pregnant with his child, I wondered how I would find the strength to remain his wife.
The above excerpt is a fusion of the lives of three different people. From the young queen who was molested relentlessly by an uncle only for him to smoke a cigarette afterwards and place the butt of the cigarette upon her back as a threat for her not to tell to the rags to riches story of a drug lord turned musician to save his family to the reality tv star who continues to be tormented by countless instances of infidelity; I have been entrusted to write their stories because I can hear their hearts.
For as long as I can remember, I was the friend that people would call to tell their secrets and as I sat and listened, I never judged. Yet, I possessed an ability to hear the essence of what others said to me. And as much as I absolutely hate talking on the phone, I am still the friend that is called to be a voice of reason. I am the friend who can give you several ways to view a situation. In reflection, I believe that my listening ear is due in part to being raised by a mother who made a life for us for well over 30 years by serving as a listening ear and confidant to countless individuals and families with solutions to matters of the heart as a counselor.
Writing was also in my genetic makeup and even though my father departed this earth without me ever truly knowing who he was or his heart, I learned so much about his ability to tell stories and his ability to dream from the stories that others have told me about him. I now know that writing is among the greatest gifts that he gave to me. If there is anything that I can do, it is tell you a good story.
And because we all have one; a good story that it, I decided to add “ghostwriter” to my resume.

For the last several months, I have been writing until my hands hurt, literally. I have been tirelessly cranking out books for amazing souls who could no longer bear the burden of their stories being untold. In doing so, I learned a great deal about myself and others. We all bear a story untold and we all have a chapter inside that we are dying to share or relieve ourselves of. Most importantly, we all deserve an opportunity to tell the world who we are. Far too often, we are misunderstood and judged by the chapter that someone happens to walk in on when there is so much more to each of us than what meets the eye.
As we walk through life, we have acquired experiences, information and inspiration that can either set us free or change the course of life for someone else.
Ghost writing is the act of writing material for another person who is named as the author. For some, telling the story is important but they lack the time or patience to actually engage in the act of writing. My mission has been and will always be to continue to create media that helps us to see the depth and variety in our lives and to redefine how we see ourselves and the world.

Serving as a ghostwriter allows me to be a vehicle to push forward with this mission. I believe that no should should bear a story untold. We deserve to tell our stories, read our stories, watch our stories and most importantly, experience the freedom that accompanies walking in our truths.

On July 1, my publishing company 13th & Joan will launch the #iwilltellmystory campaign to showcase our current authors and the inspiration behind their stories. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and to like our Facebook page to meet our authors and receive an exclusive offer for new authors!

In the end, we will all become stories so I ask: what will your book be called? I’m certain that your title is beautiful just like your soul. All my love. ❤️
